Magpie Counselling

The Curious Path

Making sense of the complicated parts of being human.

Welcome to Magpie Counselling. Life can feel tangled sometimes, in your thoughts, your emotions, your relationships, or simply in the weight of everything you’re carrying. This is a calm, thoughtful space where you can speak openly, feel heard, and begin to make sense of things at your own pace.

Curious, compassionate counselling for people who feel overwhelmed, stuck, or quietly struggling.

About Magpie Counselling

From as long as I can remember, I have been curious about people, how our experiences, relationships, and histories shape the way we think, feel, and move through the world.

My path into counselling began while working in a primary school, where I found myself especially drawn to the children who were struggling most. Opportunities to take part in The Chimp Project at Cambridge University and shadow a CBT therapist confirmed what I already felt: this was the work I was meant to do.

Since then, my journey has included co-founding Roots and Boots Forest School in Brandon, completing a degree in integrative psychotherapy, and working with domestic abuse charities supporting survivors. These experiences continue to shape the way I work, with warmth, curiosity, humility, and deep respect for every person’s story.

I believe you are the expert in your own life. My role is not to have all the answers, but to offer a thoughtful, grounded space where we can explore what is happening together.

Initial conversation

We have a brief chat to see whether my approach feels right for you.

First session

We meet in person and begin exploring what has brought you here.

Ongoing sessions

Sessions usually happen weekly, or at a rhythm that feels supportive and manageable.

Review and next steps

From time to time, we pause to reflect on what is helping and what you need going forward.

What Sessions Are Like

Sessions are 50 minutes long and usually take place in person. Online sessions are available once we have met face to face.

You do not need to arrive with a plan or the “right” words. Some people come knowing exactly what they want to talk about, while others arrive with thoughts and feelings that are harder to untangle. Both are welcome.

You set the pace. I bring curiosity, reflection, and a non-judgemental ear. Together, we create space to notice what is happening and make sense of it in a way that feels human, safe, and grounded.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the space clinical?

Not at all. My space is warm, inviting, and a little lived-in. Think comfort, not clinic.

Do you wear a long white jacket?

Nope. I leave the lab coats to scientists and the dentists. I’m more of a jumper-and-jeans kind of curious bystander.

Do I have to lie down on a couch?

Absolutely not. You sit where you feel comfortable. This isn’t a therapy cliché audition.

What if I don't know what to talk about?

Seriously. You don’t need a plan, a list, or even all the answers. We can simply start where you are.

What happens if I shout or get angry?

You can shout, sigh, stomp, or even swear (and I swear too) if it helps. I’ll stay with you. No judgements, just curiosity.

How confidential is what I say?

Completely. Everything you share stays between us, with the exceptions that law or safety require otherwise.

Will you end the session if I get upset?

No. Emotions are part of the process. I’ll be here with you, noticing, reflecting, and sitting with whatever comes up.

If I cry, will it make things weird?

Not in the slightest. Tears are a sign of honesty, not awkwardness.

How many sessions will I need?

That depends entirely on you. Some people know what they want to explore in a few sessions; others take longer. We follow your rhythm.

Do I have to have it all figured out?

Not at all. That’s my job too. I notice, reflect, and walk alongside you while you make sense of things.
